Outsourcing Crime

2nd October 2008

Why bother convincing your friends to join your criminal enterprise when you can just outsource the work to Craigslist.org.

“I came across the ad that was for a prevailing wage job for $28.50 an hour,” said Mike, who saw a Craigslist ad last week looking for workers for a road maintenance project in Monroe.

He said he inquired and was e-mailed back with instructions to meet near the Bank of America in Monroe at 11 a.m. Tuesday. He also was told to wear certain work clothing.

“Yellow vest, safety goggles, a respirator mask… and, if possible, a blue shirt,” he said.

Mike showed up along with about a dozen other men dressed like him, but there was no contractor and no road work to be done. He thought they had been stood up until he heard about the bank robbery and the suspect who wore the same attire. – King5.com

Tremors in Chicago

18th April 2008

Tremors Movie Poster Um… Yeah… So early this morning, around 4-5am, I woke up feeling nausious, sick to my stomach, my hold body shaking. I thought it was me, symptoms of insomnia I’ve felt in the past.

Nope. Turns out an earthquake, 2nd largest in midwest history, struck downstate Illinois and the tremors spread up to Chicago. The tremors were even felt in southern Ontario, Canada.

Anyone else in the Chicagoland feel the tremors this morning?

$18 For Every iPhone

2nd November 2007

I had always been puzzled by the new found joined-at-the-hip friendship between Apple and AT&T when the iPhone was released, until recently.

It turns out that AT&T is paying Apple $18 each month for every iPhone user on the AT&T network for the exclusive relationship. This estimate, from Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster, sheds some light on the strict attitude Apple has taken with people un-locking their iPhones to work on carriers other than AT&T.
